"Ultimately the bond of all companionship, whether
in marriage or in friendship, is conversation." - Oscar Wilde
“Great minds discuss ideas; Average
minds discuss events; Small minds discuss people.”
GAY WEST COMMUNITY NETWORK is a not-for-profit organization. The organization
is run by The QUEER WEST ARTS COLLECTIVE.
We are inspired by QueerWest.org ideals of openness, innovation and participation.
We welcome new ideas and new faces. We all like think outside our own individual
boxes and work on things or branch out in ways that we might not otherwise possible
as individuals. The major benefits of working collectively are for inspiration,
exposure, experimentation, and support.
QUEER WEST ARTS COLLECTIVE - Seeks to be a vital cultural resource for West
Toronto queer artists and to serve constituencies internationally with its programming.
Overall, QUEER WEST ARTS COLLECTIVE aims to provide an engaging environment
for artists; to inform, inspire, and challenge its audiences; to actively attract
new audiences; and to be an accessible resource that elevates the role of art
of all forms in contemporary culture.
Wilde Chats is a philosophical chat group for gay, bisexual and queer friendly
men in Toronto, Ontario.
It is not club or an association. We never know who is coming. The purpose
is to build a community that encourages men to think about their lives, and
provides a forum for doing so together. A topic is suggested each month by the
moderator. But it can be changed. We started off each session, gathering questions
from "What is Beauty/" to "Do we choose whom we love?" There
are no guidelines for good questions, beyond the interest of the group. We then
spend an hour delving in to the chosen question -- Not really trying to answer,
but rather trying to see it from many different side as we can, investigating
it's assumptions, getting beyond pat answers and appreciating the depth and
complexity of all issues we encounter.
And that's pretty much it. The meetings are open to gay, bisexual and queer
friendly men all ages and walks of life. There is no agenda, no predetermined
answers to questions. Guys generally leave with new things to think about and
a growing sense of community. And that's really the goal.
Some men come to talk. Some to cruise. Some to make new friends.
